There’s something undeniably captivating about giving forgotten materials a new lease on life. Welcome to Rusty Rural Chronicles, your place for all things wood and rust. Our business turns discarded timber into timeless furniture and household items that can be used in your everyday life. In our quiet, local forests, fallen and dead trees are given a second life, transformed into exquisite furniture and home decor that celebrate nature’s beauty. Our craftsman meticulously preserves the history written in every knot and grain, while rustic metal accents like wrought iron legs, antique barn pulleys, and rusty wheels add a charming touch of antiquity.
Using wood from fallen trees and repurposed parts from old antiques matters deeply in today’s world. Every reclaimed log and weathered piece of metal carries with it a unique history, a story of seasons passed and memories made. By choosing to work with these discarded resources, we champion sustainability, actively reducing waste while preserving our natural and cultural heritage. Instead of harvesting new materials, we give these vintage treasures a second life; conserving precious forests and dramatically lowering the environmental footprint typically associated with the production of new goods.
The Trees:
The wood used in our pieces comes from our family’s forest. The trees are only used if they die, none are taken before. Wind and disease are the main culprits of their demise. We are fortunate to be surrounded by a vibrant collection of hardwood trees, including Red Oak, Maple, Cherry, Yellow Poplar, and White Oak. Each species contributes its own distinctive colors, textures, and patterns, ensuring that every product carries a unique and natural character. These diverse woods not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of our creations but also serve as a constant reminder of the beauty found in nature, transforming each piece into a true work of art.

The Metal:
Rust. The ultimate ruination of handcrafted steel. Many will tell you that rust needs to be sanded, primed and painted. I am here to tell you, if you enhance it, it is incredibly beautiful. The color and variance in rusty metal are as beautiful as grain is to wood.
The great thing about metal is it is versatile. You can strip something down to pieces and use those pieces to rebuild something completely different, the only thing that stands in your way is the limits of your imagination. The metal we use comes from many different sources and only has two requirements: old and rusty. We have scoured antique stores for rusty items that once had a loving home, just waiting for their next purpose.

The Kiln: A Crucial Part of the Process
A wood kiln is essentially a large, climate-controlled chamber where wood is carefully dried and stabilized. Unlike natural air-drying, which can take months and is vulnerable to unpredictable weather, a kiln creates an optimal environment to accelerate the drying process. Through a delicate balance of temperature, humidity, and airflow, wood kilns help reduce moisture quickly and evenly, ensuring the wood is well-prepared for whatever creative purpose it may serve.

The Craft:
- Harvesting the Tree – Cutting down a tree is both an art and a science, demanding meticulous planning and rigorous safety protocols. Each step, performed with respect and exactness, transforms nature’s gift into the first chapter of a new creation.
- Sawing the Timber – Once the tree is safely harvested, the next step is to saw it into workable pieces using a sawmill. This stage is where raw timber starts to reveal its character.
- Kiln Drying: The Heart of the Transformation – A crucial part of our process is kiln drying. This accelerates the drying process while safeguarding the wood’s structure.
- Disassembling Antique Metals – The journey doesn’t end with the wood. The next step is to disassemble and refurbish the antique metals—rusted pulleys, aged iron legs are some examples. Disassembling these metals allows us to integrate their raw, industrial charm seamlessly with the organic elegance of reclaimed wood.
- Reassembling into a Beautiful New Creation The final phase is to bring together the reclaimed timber and the antique metal by assembling the components.
